2009 Detroit Auto Show: Volkswagen Touareg Lux Limited

Volkswagen is injecting more luxury into its Touareg 2 SUV with a special edition called the Lux Limited, which debuted at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

Lux Limited models will be offered with a choice of the new V6 turbodiesel, V6 gasoline and V8 engines and are limited to a total run of 1,940 units. Unique front and rear aprons along with side skirts wrap around the bottom of the new Touareg. The special edition also rides on 20-inch wheels. The Lux Limited can be ordered in white, back, gray and Biscay blue, a new color for the Touareg lineup.

Inside, the surfaces have been re-covered in upscale materials in two different versions based on the exterior color. One style utilizes Latte Macchiato and St. Tropez white two-tone leather with wood-grain accents. The other scheme uses Anthracite and St. Tropez white leather with metallic accents. Both front seats are 12-way power adjustable.

Volkswagen also used the Detroit stage to tout the Touareg's new diesel engine here, after its U.S. debut at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. The company confirmed that the V6 turbodiesel will achieve 18 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The engine makes 222 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque.

Both the V6 TDI and Lux Limited Touaregs will go on sale in early 2009.
