Porsche Hikes Prices on 2009 Boxster and Cayman

ATLANTA — Porsche has announced that its base 2009 Boxster will start at $47,550, including a $950 destination charge, when it goes on sale in March. The companion 2009 Porsche Cayman will start at $51,275 for the base model, including shipping.The '09 Boxster costs $890 more than the outgoing model. The '09 Cayman is priced $1,015 more than the outgoing model.The uplevel 2009 Porsche Boxster S will start at $57,650, and the 2009 Porsche Cayman S will start at $61,175.The most sought-after option on the two Porsches is expected to be the company's PDK or new seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. It will carry a price tag of $3,420. Porsche Cars North America spokesman Tony Fouladpour told Inside Line that the company expects 70 percent of Boxster and Cayman models to be ordered with PDK — the same 'take rate' as that of the Porsche 911.The base model Boxster now has a 2.9-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that delivers 255 horsepower — 10 hp more than the former 2.7-liter six. It also produces 214 pound-feet of torque — 14 lb-ft more than before. The 2.9-liter engine produces 265 hp in the Cayman. The 3.4-liter flat-6 now delivers 310 hp in the 2009 Boxster S and 320 hp in the Cayman S.In addition to announcing 2009 Boxster and Cayman pricing, Porsche said it will increase prices for its entire 2009 model lineup. 'The average price increase per model is $900 and includes all 911 sports cars and Cayenne SUVs,' the automaker said in a statement.
