Suzuki freezes big car project, shelves overseas expansion plans

Due to the global slowdown in the auto industry, the Japanese car producer Suzuki Motor Corp has postponed its actions. The company has deferred the plans of releasing its novel model large sized sports utility in the year 2010. Further the expansion plans are under hold due to slump in auto field. 

 

Suzuki will not be going forward with their plan to develop the 3.6 litre engine 'Kizashi', a four door sports sedan. Adding, it is in the concept level and it not yet moved further, said sources.

 

As an alternate option 'Kizashi' SUV model is intend to attract users who are in the need to upgrade their small vehicles in the major markets like India and few others.

 

Maruti Suzuki India has met with a decrease in the sales to 56293 vehicles (including 4264 units exported) in December 2008 compared to the total sales of 62515 vehicles in December 2007.

 

With 50% of India's car market under Maruti Suzuki, the sales volume in the domestic A3 segment increased to 98% during the month.

 

To show up its headship in fuel efficiency, Maruti Suzuki has started flaunting fuel efficiency for its 12 brands from New Year. 

 

Maruti Suzuki's headship is known by the fuel economy figures obtained from the tests by premier automobile research institutions. The company has made a 'voluntary disclosure of fuel economy' keeping in mind the users interest. Moreover, it would provide customers an informed choice when buying a car in the market, said Shinzo Nakanishi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited

 

The company has tested its 12 brands at the three government recognized test agencies - Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) Pune, Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) Ahmednagar and International Centre of Automotive Technology (ICAT) Manesar. 

 

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) publicized a voluntary labeling programme during the annual meet held in New Delhi in September 2008. It is that all the member companies have to make a voluntary disclosure of fuel efficiency by end of March 2009.

 

Due to the demand for cars are getting decreased, Suzuki and other auto producers are in a situation to decrease their output and investment plans.
