BMW Hikes Prices on 2009 7 Series

WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey — The 2009 BMW 7 Series will start at $81,125 for the 750i model and $85,025 for the 750Li model, the automaker announced on Monday. Both prices include an $825 destination charge. The vehicles go on sale in the spring.The 2009 BMW 750i reflects a $3,500 price increase over the 2008 model. The 2009 BMW 750Li reflects a $4,300 price increase over the 2008 model.BMW said its sales of the 2008 7 Series rose 15.3 percent in November compared with November 2007.A new 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 — the same engine as in the BMW X6 — powers both models of the 7 Series. It delivers 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. The EPA has yet to post fuel economy numbers for the 2009 BMW 7 Series, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to post crash data on the new 7 Series.BMW on Monday also said it will institute an average price increase of 0.7 percent for BMW vehicles sold in the U.S. starting January 1. 'This action is driven by the ongoing structural and economical changes in the marketplace,' BMW said in a statement. 'It will ensure revenue generation for the company's U.S. operations and help to protect the quality of business.'It noted that pricing for its Advanced Diesel vehicles, the BMW 335d and X5 xDrive35d, remains unchanged.Inside Line says: You'll be paying more for BMW's full-size luxury sedan in the coming year. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
