FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Nissan North America will introduce a commercial multipurpose vehicle concept, the NV2500, at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.Nissan calls the NV2500 Concept one of the largest concepts it has ever created. The automaker plans to enter the commercial-vehicle market in North America in 2010.Although Nissan has not released much information about the vehicle, the family relationship with such sturdy-looking vehicles as the Titan pickup is clear from the released image.Expansion of its light commercial vehicle business was one of the 'five business breakthroughs' listed by Nissan earlier this year in its GT 2010 five-year business plan covering 2008-2013. The automaker announced that it would bring out three all-new light commercial vehicles in three years, all specifically designed for the North American market, and the NV2500 appears to be the first of those. All are to be built at Nissan's plant in Canton, Mississippi.Nissan manufacturing executive Bill Krueger said light commercial vehicles will be 'a major contributor to the future success of Nissan in North America.'Inside Line says: LCVs may not be glamorous, but they look to be an important way Nissan will stay relevant in the U.S. marketplace. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
