The data for April - October 2008 shows production growth of 8.39 percent over April – October 2007. However, in October 2008, overall production fell by 12.32% over the same month last year. 

Domestic Sales
The growth of the Passenger Vehicles segment during April – October 2008 was 4.87 percent over April – October 2007. Passenger Cars grew by 3.51 percent, Utility Vehicles by 6.33 percent and Multi Purpose Vehicles by 18.15 percent in this period. However, the sales in October 2008 for passenger vehicles fell by 9.05% over October 2007 - with all sub-segments registering negative growth.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles segment registered de-growth. The segment grew at (-) 2.97 percent during April – October 2008 as compared to the same period last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles registered significant de-growth at (-) 9.53 percent, Light Commercial Vehicles recorded a growth of 4.94 percent. In October 2008 commercial vehicles sales fell by 36.00% compare to 2007.

Three Wheelers sales registered decline with growth rate being (-) 0.66 percent in April – October 2008. While Passenger Carriers grew by 19.64 percent during April – October 2008, Goods Carriers declined at (-) 34.55 percent. In October, three wheelers fell by 6.66%.

Two Wheelers registered a growth of 6.65 percent during April-October 2008. Mopeds, Motorcycles and Scooters grew by 4.77 percent, 6.59 percent and 6.79 percent respectively. Electric two wheelers segment grew by 54.25 percent. However, two wheelers sales registered (-)14.52% growth in October 2008 over same month last year

Exports
The period from April – October 2008 saw automobile exports registering a growth of 29.36 percent with all segments except Commercial vehicles registering positive growth.

Passenger Vehicles and Two Wheelers segment grew by 59.21 and 28.49 percent respectively. Three Wheelers exports grew by 3.47 percent
