2008 SEMA Show: Chevolet Camaro Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Concept

LAS VEGAS — One of four project Camaros from General Motors on display at the 2008 SEMA Show, Chevrolet's Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Concept hews as much to heritage as the NASCAR star for whom it's named. Earnhardt owns a Pro Touring-style 1972 Camaro with an LS crate engine from GM Performance Parts.GM said it created the car based on Earnhardt's vision. Starting with a 2010 Camaro SS, the company modified the stock 6.2-liter V8 to run on E85 and recalibrated it to deliver more power. A six-speed manual gearbox with short-throw Hurst shift and GMPP exhaust headers is fitted, along with Brembo brakes, lowered suspension and 21-inch Pirelli P Zero performance tires on five-spoke wheels. The Earnhardt Camaro is painted gray over white with an orange stripe separating the two colors. Chevy added a dovetail rear spoiler plus a custom grille, a rear diffuser and ground effects from the Chevy Accessories catalog.Inside are leather-and-suede seats with accent stitching, aluminum pedals, an auxiliary gauge cluster and carbon fiber accents, plus a Boston Acoustics audio system.Inside Line says: Dale, Jr., has great taste — in Camaros. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
