2008 SEMA Show: GM Performance Parts 2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP

LAS VEGAS — GM is set to unveil a modified version of the turbocharged 2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe here next week at the highly anticipated 2008 SEMA Show. It will be the first time a modified version of the Solstice Coupe is seen by the public.First shown at the 2008 New York Auto Show back in February, the rear-wheel-drive Solstice Coupe GXP will hit the road this spring powered by the same 260-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission used in the Solstice GXP drop top.The SEMA Solstice GXP Coupe, however, will be equipped with a GM Performance Parts Stage 2 performance kit and performance air intake kit, which GM says boosts output to about 290 hp. The car will also wear a GM Performance Parts cat-back exhaust system and a suspension kit that Pontiac describes (ridiculously) as race-ready. Hard to believe since it doesn't even seem to sit any lower than stock, but at SEMA, overstatement makes the world go 'round and the cash registers ring.Incredibly, the exterior of the Solstice is understated. Pontiac says the car's Hydro Blue racing stripe may inspire a graphics kit from GM Accessories, while the wheels are simply polished factory units. Blue accent stitching on the leather-trimmed seats and pedal covers keep things pimpin' on the inside.Inside Line says: What's that line about lipstick on a pig? GM must have better ways to spend its depleted cash reserves. — Scott Oldham, Editor in Chief
