Lamborghini Modifies Gallardo for World's Fastest One-Make Race Series

SANT'AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy — A modified version of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 will star in what the automaker is calling the world's fastest one-make series. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series will also be the only all-wheel-drive one-make race series. A total of six races will be held starting on May 3 at England's Silverstone circuit. Races will also be held in Italy, Belgium, Spain and Germany. Cars can be registered with either one or two drivers. Each race weekend will include practicing, qualifying and three 40-minute races. The modified Gallardo will be called, logically enough, the Super Trofeo. It gets a reworked chassis, power increased up to 570 horsepower and weight cut to 2,866 pounds. Super Trofeos will also receive upgraded brakes, Pirelli slick tires, a roll cage and a fixed carbon fiber rear wing. Inside, there is an ultralight racing seat, a unique steering wheel and specialized instruments. Lamborghini will build 30 Super Trofeos for the race series to be sold to professionals, Lamborghini dealer teams and experienced amateur racers. Additionally, one factory car will be driven by a celebrity guest at each race. The cars will sell for the equivalent of more than $250,000, which doesn't include a race entry fee.Inside Line says: The Super Trofeo takes one-make racing to the next level. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
