Roush Recalls 2007-'08 Ford F-150 Liquid Propane Injection Trucks

WASHINGTON — Ford tuner Roush Performance Products is recalling one of its high-profile alternative fuel vehicles, the 2007-'08 Ford F-150 Liquid Propane Injection truck. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that hydrocarbon paper affixed to the inside of the truck's airbox lid with adhesive may become dislodged during operation, resulting in stalling in 'extreme cases.' Some 213 trucks are involved in the recall, which is expected to begin on November 17.'This failure may result in a loss of performance, illumination of the malfunction indicator lamp and, in extreme cases, a stalling of the vehicle during operation without notice, which could result in a crash,' NHTSA said in its recall summary of the problem. The trucks, which are built to run solely on propane, use an optional $10,500 system installed by Ford dealers. In its documents filed with NHTSA, Roush said it first became aware of the problem after a Ford dealer received some of the trucks in late September. 'The dealer advised that, of the vehicles delivered, it had found that three of the vehicles had little pieces of black paper with adhesive coming off from the airbox lid and getting stuck in the throttle body,' Roush said. Later, Roush received a warranty claim from a customer who had 12,000 miles on his truck and was experiencing a lack of power when accelerating.Roush said it will begin notifying customers of the recall during the week of October 20. Ford dealers will replace the airbox lid with a new one at no charge. But Roush is advising customers to make an appointment with their Ford dealer in advance so the dealer can have a replacement kit on hand.Customers can contact Roush at (866) 307-6788.Inside Line says: If you own one of the aforementioned trucks, make an appointment to get it in to your Ford dealer ASAP. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
