Mulally: Ka and Fiesta begin Ford's future

Mulally said Ford customers wanted cars that showed quality, low fuel consumption, safety and value. The new Ford Ka was driven on to the Ford stand by actress Olga Kurylenko, who plays Bond girl Camille in the new James Bond movie, 'Quantum of Solace,' due for world release later this year. The Ford Mondeo appeared in a previous Bond movie, Casino Royale. The Ka has been completely redesigned, and it now shares some body style with the recently launched but bigger Fiesta, which will go on sale in the U.S. in 2010. The Fiesta will be built in Mexico. Ford has said it is unlikely to sell the Ka in the U.S., which is built in Tychy, Poland in a joint venture with Fiat of Italy. Ford is expected to use Ford Europe designs for American versions of the new Focus. Other new models are likely to benefit from Ford Europe's small car expertise. Ford of Europe has sold more than 1.4 million versions of the Ka since it was introduced 12 years ago. Neil Winton writes the European Perspective column for AutosInsider.com
