Tuner Special: Oettinger Scirocco

FRIEDRICHSDORF, Germany — Oettinger's modifications for the Volkswagen Scirocco include body work, engine upgrades and chassis improvements for a complete package, yet the company has plans for an even more powerful car.Power in both the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and 1.4-liter twin-charged engine is boosted by 40 horsepower thanks to engine management modifications. That leaves output at 237 and 197 hp, respectively, for the engines. Still, Oettinger isn't content with those numbers and intends to improve the 2.0-liter numbers to 345 hp and 346 pound-feet of torque before the year is over. Upgrades from that package will include a new exhaust system from the turbocharger back and a larger intercooler. The company will also offer larger brakes and an adjustable suspension setup.Oettinger's modifications to the body include a front splitter, sill extensions and a new rear diffuser. The German tuner also offers 20-inch wheels, carbon interior pieces, stainless sill plates, custom floor mats and aluminum pedals for the Scirocco. What this means to you: It's no surprise that the Scirocco is receiving attention from tuners, but Oettinger's goal of 345 hp is certainly striking. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
