2008 SEMA Show: Dodge Previews SEMA-ized Ram R/T Pickup

DETROIT — Dodge recently introduced the all-new 2009 Ram 1500, and already the automaker is preparing a special version of its new full-size truck for the 2008 SEMA Show. The new show truck is intended to keep people pumped up about the Ram — and to help divert attention from the upcoming launch of the 2009 Ford F-150.The starting point for Dodge's SEMA debut is a stock 2009 Dodge Ram Sport with two-wheel drive painted Chrysler's classic 'B5' blue. Under the hood is the improved-for-2009 5.7-liter Hemi engine pumping out 390 horsepower. The drivetrain utilizes the stock five-speed automatic fitted with a high-stall torque converter that sends the twist back to a set of 4.10 gears. Dodge estimates the run from zero to 60 mph to take about 5.6 seconds.According to Chrysler sources, the concept truck development team wanted this Ram to be 'customer reproducible' using nothing more than a new Ram, a Mopar Accessories catalog and a credit card. If you were to create the SEMA truck yourself, individual charges would include a Mopar dual-snorkel aluminum hood, cold air intake, dual exhaust and carbon-fiber accent stripes. Changes to the body include a chin spoiler plus sill and box accoutrements. The suspension is dropped and rolls on 285/45R22 front and 305/40R22 rear tires mounted on concept-only 22-inch machine-face wheels produced by Alcoa. Fuel gets to the tank after passing through a Dodge Challenger-inspired fuel filler. A hard tonneau with an integrated spoiler finishes off the bed that features an under-rail LED lighting system.Inside, the R/T theme continues with the brushed sill trim and Katzkin leather seats. The 2008 SEMA Show takes place in Las Vegas during the first week of November. What this means to you: Damning cratered truck sales, Chrysler is serious about selling the 2009 Ram.
