High cost of a bogus driving licence

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) continued to deliver a severe warning to motoring fraudsters at Croydon Crown Court yesterday. Driving test impersonator, Joseph Nazaire Djoukam, 41, of South East London was sentenced to eight months imprisonment following the charge of 'conspiracy to obtain property by deception' having conducted numerous illegal driving test impersonations. His Honour Judge Stephen Waller, sentenced Djoukan then continued to issue punishment to three of Djoukams 'candidates' who had paid him to sit their driving test and obtain fraudulent driving licences on their behalf. Christophe Makiadi, 40, of Leeds, Gaoussou Dramane, 27, of South East London, and Adama Diakite, 35, of South East London were also in Court following their arrest and received a combined total of £1600 Court costs and 350 hours of unpaid community service. All bogus driving licences were revoked. Head of DSA Fraud and Integrity Andrew Rice said: 'We are delighted with the outcome of today's verdict. Tackling impersonations is a key priority for the Agency as failing to identify offenders presents a significant danger to road safety. Through fraudulent and criminal means, impersonators gain entitlement to drive for those who are unable or unwilling to undertake the assessment to prove that they meet the required standard to drive on our roads. Many impersonators do not operate alone, but are involved with and act on behalf of groups engaged in organised criminal activity. An illegal driving licence gained may be used for driving illegally, but we know they are also used for identity fraud. We investigate all reported cases and work closely with the police and criminal justice agencies to identify offenders and bring them to justice.'
