GM to recall defective Hummer H2 in China
General Motors China Group, the Chinese division of the world's largest automaker General Motors Corp., announced Thursday it was recalling part of imported Hummer H2 SUVs for the defect in the vehicles' heated windshield washer fluid system, said xinhuanet.com yesterday.
GM China has already submitted report to China' top quality supervisor to recall these defective autos from September 19. The recall involves part of imported Hummer H2 SUVs in China, manufactured between 2006 and 2008.
A short circuit in the circuit board that controls the heated windshield washer fluid system could cause a grounding wire to overheat. That could lead to smoke and the malfunctioning of other electrical components. In rare cases, it could cause a fire, GM China said in a statement.
As time is needed for preparing new parts, GM China will take two steps to fix the problem: first, to shut off the system in the event of a short circuit to avoid potential risks; second, to replace the faulty parts for customers free of charge when the new parts are ready and to resume the heating function.
