Nautically Inspired Superyacht Range Rovers Get Set for Monaco Debut

MONACO — One media wag calls the fruits of a design competition that links Range Rover with superyacht designers a 'Pimp My Ride for the Portofino crowd.' The customized Range Rovers — on paper only — will make their official debuts later this month at the Monaco Yacht Show 2008.Edmiston, the yacht maker behind the competition, says that the actual off-roaders will only be 'built to order.' The price tags: between $282,773 and $1.1 million. But the fabulously rich will be able to ride around in such standouts as the Sea Taxi Range Rover, a vehicle with classic teak cladding and a tailgate with an awning. Other designs include a Range Rover that has been transformed into a two-door convertible. In a footnote that's sure to cheer the hearts of the Donald Trumps of the world, these vehicles are equipped with champagne holders rather than everyday cupholders.Expect the custom vehicles to take from three to six months to build. What this means to you: If you're heading to the Monaco Yacht Show, this would be an excellent souvenir to park in your driveway. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
