China August auto sales down 3 pct

China's overall vehicle sales fell 3 percent year on year to 650,000 units, but the number was a 13 percent decline compared with the previous month, according to preliminary figures acquired by Guangzhou Daily.
No automaker saw its sales exceed 40,000 units in August in the passenger car segment, with Shanghai VW leads the market with 39,080 units sold in the month.

Car sales in Asia's largest auto market slowed as rising fuel prices damped demand and people delayed purchases during the Beijing Olympics.

Sales of commercial vehicles marked down significantly in August following a price rise pushed up by the implementation of the China III emission standards as of July 1.
