Chrysler to show dealers three electric-vehicle prototypes this month

Jim Press, Chryslers co-president, said today that Chrysler will be showing its dealers prototypes of three electric cars that can be produced in the near future. Chrysler will show the vehicles this month, but has not said when it plans on producing the cars.

Press said that Chrysler is focusing on developing plug-in electric hybrid vehicles that will have a range of 300 miles. However, Press said that one key issue remains - developing new platforms for electric cars. At the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, Chrysler showed three electric concepts (Dodge ZEO, and Chrysler ecoVoyager) powered by lithium-ion battery technology capable of 250 miles or more.

While Daimler AGs technology still remains available for Chrysler, Press said that the company can move forward with electrification with or without partners.

Press also said that Chrysler will not generate positive cash flow in 2008.?The company executives are positive about the eight all-new products due out in 2010.
