Jaguar Recalls 2009 XF for Seatbelt Fix

WASHINGTON — Jaguar is recalling 7,918 2009 XF sedans because of a problem with the rear seatbelt assembly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.NHTSA says the rear safety belt D-ring assembly may not rotate properly around the safety belt anchorage mounting bolt. 'If the assembly is not held together when tightening, the D-ring and/or washer can separate from the shoulder of the spacer, allowing these parts to be partially clamped by the spacer, forming a burr on either the D-ring or the washer and subsequently limiting proper rotation of the D-ring,' said the federal watchdog in its summary of the problem.'In the event of a crash, a seat occupant may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of personal injury,' NHTSA added.Jaguar dealers will inspect the rear seatbelts and reinstall them to correct the problem. The recall is expected to begin shortly. Owners may contact Jaguar at (800) 452-4827.What this means to you: If you own a 2009 XF, better have it checked out with your dealer. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
