2008 Moscow Auto Show: Renault Stolitsa

MOSCOW — The advance publicity for Renault at the 2008 Moscow Auto Show focused on the redesigned Symbol sedan from Turkey and the Korea-built Koleos crossover, but some of the greatest local interest was reserved for two models that are to be produced here with Russian partner Avtoframos. The Stolitsa is a mild remake of the popular Logan sedan, created to commemorate both three years of Logan production in Russia and the 10th anniversary of Renault in one of its major global markets. The Logan Stolitsa is fitted with a 90-horsepower 1.6-liter engine, air-conditioning, power steering, central locking and foglamps. The car, which Renault said will be produced in limited numbers, will come in two colors: red metallic chrome and dark gray. The Stolitsa will cost $14,200, a bit less expensive than the range-topping Logan Prestige, which sells for $14,850.Russians also got their first official glimpse of the Logan-based Sandero hatchback, which goes into production late next year at the Moscow plant of Avtoframos.Production capacity at the plant is currently being expanded to 160,000 units from the present 80,000. However, Renault is expected to begin selling the first Sandero cars in Russia this fall, with the initial supplies coming from its Romania plant. Prices will range from about $13,000-$15,000.What this means to you: Renault continues to expand its base of operations in Russia. — Tai Adelaja, Correspondent
