Toyota turns to China, India, Russia for New Markets

The woes that beset the Detroit Three are having its impact on Toyota as well.

There are reports coming out of Japan that Toyota is cutting back on its global production. It has cut back expectations, declining its estimated sales for 2008 from 9.85 million to 9.5 million units. The company is also cutting its production estimates for 2009, which were originally forecasted at 10.4 million. The automaker now expects to sell 9.8 million vehicles.

Toyota concluded that growth will be coming from three countries -- Russia, India, and China. Otherwise, the rest of the major world markets are expected to be stagnate.

Our take? If one of the most successful automakers is having trouble staying afloat, what do you think are the chances for troubled automakers like General Motors and Chrysler?
