Cosmic Motors: Daniel Simon Designs Groundbreaking Vehicles of the Future

BERLIN — Daniel Simon, whose day job is as a concept designer for Volkswagen, has created a book called Cosmic Motors that explores the automotive designs of the imagined far-away galaxy of Galaxion, where futuristic vehicles exist in everyday life.Simon has drawn up nine spaceships, pods, racing cars, trains, war ships and balloons from various planets in the Galaxion system. In Cosmic Motors, the reader can follow them from concept to completion. In the book, Cosmic Motors is an independent manufacturer of all kinds of vehicles located in the center of this fictional galaxy. It is commonly referred to as CoMo and, says Simon, it was founded by the sons of a successful rocket scientist in the year 8966-B.The closest CoMo gets to cars is the Galaxion 5000, a premium coupe that has a top speed of 330 mph and is powered by a Xenoramuim fusion reactor. Other vehicles include the Camarudo one-seater that tops out at 450 mph and the Astrocon Taooa, a heavyweight light-ray gunner. All the vehicles in the book have been digitalized with visual design software, and Simon has meticulously paid attention to details like chipped paint and writing on the oxygen canisters inside the vehicles. The soft cover is priced at $29.95 through Design Studio Press, in English, German and Japanese. What this means to you: Simon's vehicles in Cosmic Motors take concept design to the next level — and the next galaxy. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
