2008 Paris Auto Show Preview: Vauxhall/Opel Insignia Sports Tourer to Make Forma

LUTON, England — Saturn is likely to get a version of the Vauxhall/Opel Insignia in the 2010-'11 time frame, and soccer moms in the U.S. should be rejoicing. Vauxhall on Thursday showed off some stunning images of its five-passenger Insignia Sports Tourer, a sleek Euro wagon that should give products like the Audi A6 Avant a run for the money. The Insignia Sports Tourer will make its debut at the 2008 Paris Auto Show.

Vauxhall took pains to point out that this third Insignia variant is a 'stand-alone model and not simply an estate version of the saloon .' 'All the bodywork aft of the B-pillars is unique to the Sports Tourer,' said Mark Adams, GM Europe Design vice-president, in a statement.

In an environmentally friendly twist, Vauxhall said the Insignia Sports Tourer will also be available 'in the near future' in a low-emissions ecoFLEX version.

The Insignia Sports Tourer, in front- and all-wheel-drive models, will go on sale in the second quarter of 2009.

Vauxhall said two new engines will be available in its sleek wagon from launch, including a more powerful turbodiesel and a smaller-capacity turbocharged gasoline engine. More details on those engines are expected at the Paris show, along with other technical specifications on the Sports Tourer, such as full dimensions.
