Dana to cut 3,000 jobs after loss widens

Dana Holding Corp., the vehicle-axle and frame maker that emerged from bankruptcy in February, lowered its sales forecast and announced plans to cut 3,000 jobs this year after posting a wider second-quarter loss, Bloomberg News reported Thursday.

Dana reported a deficit of $140 million, or $1.47 a share, on impairment expenses, rising steel costs and lower North American auto production. The results compare with $133 million, or 89 cents, in the year-earlier period, the company said in a regulatory filing today.

Dana lost business as output of pickups and sport-utility vehicles at Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. fell, paring demand for the supplier's parts, according to Bloomberg. Toledo, Ohio-based Dana said 2008 revenue will be $8.6 billion to $8.8 billion, down from $9 billion projected in May.
