Perfect day fills Brownstown show with convertible chariots

BROWNSTOWN, Mich.-- Nearly 200 cars showed up Saturday Aug.2 at the Brownstown Civic Center for the Roam'n Chariots club's 10th annual Hospice Benefit Car show. The weather was flawless, which meant that most of the convertibles on display were missing their tops.

Among the trophies given out at the show is a Detroit News Joyrides Choice Award, which this year went to a stunning California custom 1957 Buick Century owned by Harry Lazechko of Taylor, Mich. The car was built in 1990 by Richard Zocchi, a California native who has been radically customizing all makes of cars since the age of 16.

The car has been chopped three inches and sports Frenched '56 Oldsmobile headlights and '56 Packard taillights. It features disc brakes, power steering, air conditioning and air suspension.

Lazechko owns other cars, including a custom 1955 Mercury and a chopped '66 Ford pickup.
