China exports almost no truck to Russia in Jan
Chinese truck makers almost had no exports for Russia market in January, 2009, according to the latest data collected by European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), Russia media reported.
Xinjiang Yema Economy and Trade Co., Ltd, a representative trader for Chinese heavy truck makers, exported no completed vehicles to the Russian market in the first two months this year. The company achieved millions of dollars in value of exports to Russia last year.
Russia’s protectionist policy to its auto market has seriously affected China’s truck makers who intended to enter this market, an executive of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products said, quoted by China Automotive News.
To protect its domestic market, the Russian government has hiked imports tax for CKD and completed vehicles by a large amount, which blocked Chinese truck makers from entering their market.
Up to now, no Chinese heavy truck makers got the new entry approval from Russia. In addition, the Russian ruble is seeing depreciation. The prospect is dim for Chinese truck makers to export their vehicles to Russia.
