Visteon cutting worker hours, pay

Automotive supplier Visteon Corp. says it will shift more than 2,000 workers to a four-day week and cut pay by 20 percent as tight credit and collapsing sales cause huge industry losses.

The Detroit Free Press reported Friday the moves next week will affect 2,000 workers at Visteon's headquarters in Van Buren Township and 50 at a testing center in Plymouth.

Spokesman Jim Fisher told the newspaper the cuts reduce operating costs while minimizing layoffs. Visteon recently announced 800 job cuts.

There was no immediate response to an e-mail sent to Visteon.

Visteon was spun off from Ford Motor Co. in 2000. It makes satellite radios, instrument displays, electronic climate controls and other parts.
