Mustangs Gallop to Championships in U.S. and Abroad

DEARBORN, Michigan — As the racing season comes to a close, the Ford Mustang was triumphant in a pair of road-racing championships, taking the crown in Virginia in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge and in Nogaro, France, in the GT4 European Cup.In their HyperSport No. 55 Mustang FR500C, Joe Foster and Scott Maxwell won both the team and drivers' championships, coming in 5th in the season finale of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge in Alton, Virginia.Three Mustangs ended the season in the top five in the KONI series. The No. 60 Rehagen Racing Mustang FR500C, with drivers Mike Canney, Matt Plumb and Hugh Plumb won the Virginia race, helping Ford clinch the manufacturers' championship, and ended the season tied for 6th place. Their teammates Dean Martin, Jack Roush, Jr., and Ryan Phinny came in 2nd in the race and ended the season in 5th place.The Ford Mustang FR500C had been a KONI championship winner once before, in 2005, Ford says.Meanwhile, in GT4 racing in Europe, Eric de Doncker clinched his second GT4 European Cup in a row in the No. 1 Mustang FR500GT4. De Doncker finished 3rd in the first two races and took 4th place in the third race of the weekend, held in Nogaro in southwestern France.
