US Tyre Special Safeguard Investigation Opposed

In response to a special safeguard investigation launched by U.S. International Trade Commission (also known as USITC) against Chinese tyre products, YAO Jian, spokesperson of Ministry of Commerce recently voiced China¡¯s strong opposition.
 
YAO pointed out the special safeguard measures in Protocol on China¡¯s Accession into WTO made under special historical background and targeted at the imports of Chinese products now suffer a lack of objective standards, just principles and transparency.
 
Amid the global financial crisis, demand for tyres has been on a steady decline, which is the chief reason for the poor performance of US tyre industry, according to YAO. The restrictions imposed on imports from China, an abuse of special safeguard measures and a discriminatory act against Chinese products, cannot solve the problem.
