New Roller, new engine

Rolls-Royce said the new Ghost to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September will have a "brand new" 6.6-litre turbocharged V12 engine "unique to Rolls-Royce".

The greenies' delight will produce 563bhp, delivering a 0-60 mph time of 4.7 seconds and a governed top speed of 155 mph. It is combined with an eight-speed automatic ZF gearbox. CO2 output was not quoted, funnily enough...

Rolls-Royce director of engineering, Helmut Riedl said, "Despite its extraordinary performance figures it has been engineered for effortless composure and refined power delivery."

Sales for UK and Europe start towards the end of 2009 with US and Asia Pacific following early in 2010.
