Rhys Millen To Transform Hyundai Genesis Coupe Into SEMA Showstopper

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — Champion drifter and rallyist Rhys Millen is teaming with Hyundai to create an 'Art of Speed' showcar for the upcoming 2008 SEMA Show.

The Korean automaker says the collaboration with Rhys Millen Racing is merely the inaugural effort for the Genesis Coupe — 'the first of many to be modified by some of the best tuner shops in the world.'

The RMR Genesis Coupe will be a fully functional racing car 'capable of running in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb,' with what Millen describes as a 'radical body design': a wide-body kit with a carbon fiber wing and a functional hood scoop, dressed in silver-and-black livery.

RMR will provide a turbo package for Hyundai's DOHC 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and will mate it to a heavy-duty HKS sequential gearbox. A K&W coil-over suspension, Brembo brakes and Enkei racing wheels shod with Bridgestone Potenza RE-01 performance tires are also planned for the car.

No racing car would be complete without the requisite Sparco steering wheel and seats and eight-point roll cage, complemented with an RMR-designed carbon-fiber dash.

Rhys Millen has more than 16 years of motorsports experience under his belt, including the 2005 Formula Drift championship and Rookie of the Year honors at Pikes Peak. Millen's RMR has worked with such manufacturers as Toyota, Lexus and Mitsubishi and has custom-built private vehicles for such celebrities as musician Alex Van Halen, actor Jason Priestley and athlete Dennis Rodman.
