Toyoda Gosei to close Market Harborough plant

Toyoda Gosei has announced the closure of its loss-making UK fluid management systems plant at Market Harborough by the end of 2008; the 130-strong workforce has been informed of the decision; no redundancies are to be made for at least three months.

Toyoda Gosei has reportedly blamed the collapse of MG Rover and the ¡°increasing globalisation of the automotive industry, which has seen the plant having to compete with a growing trend to source automotive parts in Eastern Europe and the Far East¡±. Toyoda Gosei is a Japanese company; its website makes no mention of the news.

A specialist team has been brought in to train workers and help employees find new jobs, reported last Thursday¡¯s Lutterworth Mail.
