Jag, Land Rover moving N.America HQ to New Jersey
By Andrew Grossman
Jaguar Land Rover is moving its North American headquarters from Irvine, Calif., to northern New Jersey, where it already has customer service and other support operations.
The move comes a week after Ford completed the $2.3 billion sale of the company to India's Tata Motors.
Mike O'Driscoll, the managing director for Jaguar, cited greater efficiency and being located closer to the United Kingdom, where Jaguar Land Rover manufactures its vehicles. The company said in a statement that it plans to give all of its 50 permanent Irvine employees the option to move.
"For some time now we have been looking at consolidating our organization as it makes perfect business sense to have Jaguar and Land Rover back at its original location in New Jersey as we already have an existing set-up and facilities there," O'Driscoll said in a statement.
The move will likely prevent some executive jet lag.
A direct commercial flight from Los Angeles to London is just over 10 hours long, while a flight from New York to London takes just 6 hours. But the real convenience will come for travel to a locale that suddenly gained importance to Jaguar Land Rover in December: Mumbai, home to the headquarters of Tata Motors.
Commercial flights from Mumbai to New York are about eight hours shorter than from Los Angeles because some don't require a layover.
